Members of the public are urged to submit names for Holy Trinity Church’s extension project.

The church, in Church Road, Sunningdale, is asking for the public to submit suggestions for a name for the renovation, which could see an extension with a cafe, kitchen and toilets.

Carol Elsasser, the church warden, said: “We’re asking people if they have any ideas for a name for the whole project.” The vicar, the Rev David Uffindell, added he was looking forward to submissions from the public, including school children. At present, the proposal for the renovation work is being considered by the Diocesan Advisory Committee and the Victorian Society, which champions Victorian and Edwardian buildings.

Mr Uffindell added: “We are waiting to hear back, it feels like we’re in for a bit of a waiting game, but we’re hoping they will be as excited as we are.” Buoyed by the success of a public consultation on plans held in September, and the support of local people, both Mr Uffindell and Ms Elsasser said they were optimistic over the future, and the benefits the project will bring to the community.

Ms Elsasser confirmed that should the societies approve plans, they would begin moving towards submitting a planning application, hopefully by the end of the year.

Costing the project will be done once proposals, designed by Acanthus Clews Architects, have been approved. If you have any ideas about a name for the project, send them to htsadmin@btconnect.com, or via post to the church office.
