World champion Claire Vigrass and professional Andy Chinneck taught 21 tennis-mad students from the Marist Senior School at Holyport Real Tennis Club on November 15.

The pair spent the two-hour session demonstrating basic shots to the youngsters, as well as giving a history of the sport and the differences between the game and lawn tennis.

Student Greta Spitzer said: “What better introduction to this unique sport than to have a lesson with the ladies world champion!

“Claire Vigrass was especially patient and generous with her time. We were delighted to have the chance to play matches against each other.”

Jen Bishopp, head of PE at the school, said: “The trip to Holyport Real Tennis Club was a fantastic opportunity for our A-level students to learn more about the game which forms part of the syllabus they are studying.

“The opportunity to learn how the game started and developed into lawn tennis was extremely useful and an exciting chance for active learning at its best.”
