Shaib Malik, who owns Charcoal Peri Peri, in London Road, has vowed to improve the restaurant before its next inspection by the Royal Borough.
It was graded as part of the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS) – a national policy devised by the Food Standards Agency to grade anywhere you can eat or shop for food by the same criteria.
There are six overall ratings given to premises – with 'zero’ being the worst and 'five’ being the best.
Mr Malik said: “We just bought this restaurant five or six months ago and we have learned a lot in the short space of time we’ve been doing it.
“We are on the right track and we’re trying to keep up the better standards, because it has a good effect on the customers. We are expecting to be at least a three [rating] next time around.”
