EARTH DAY 2018 saw businesses across the country trying new ways to cut waste and recycle more.
One pub chain, which will soon be re-opening The Royal Forresters pub in Ascot, is attempting to cut down on plastic waste by substituting their straws for more recyclable ones.
Plastic straws will no longer be in use at any Oakman Inns pubs or restaurants from now onwards.
This means that when The Royal Forresters opens it will be without single use plastic straws.
The Oakman Inns CEO, Peter Borg Neal, explained why they made that decision.
He said: “So much of our ethos at Oakman Inns emanates from the wishes of our staff and our customers who are almost universal in their desire to end plastic consumption wherever possible. Oakman has a reputation for leading the way and, to a certain extent, it’s now up to us to show what can be done with the support of all our stakeholders, including our suppliers.”
The Royal Forresters is set to re-open in June 2018.
