PUPILS at a school in Sunninghill were given an insight into the world of work during a special career ‘speed-dating’ event.

Year nine students from The Marist School, in Kings Road, had the chance to speak with representatives from 15 local, national and international companies to provide them with practical advice on the qualifications and skills required for specific jobs and careers.

Kicking off with short introductions from each of the companies present, the pupils then took part in a ‘speed-dating’ style question time where they networked with the representatives from organisations including British Airways, Sky Sports and South Hill Park Arts Centre.

Head of Key Stage 3, Liz Karakurt said: “The vision behind the Careers ‘Speed Dating’ event was to offer something unique to our Year 9 pupils as they prepare to make their GCSE option choices.

“I am delighted that a wide-ranging selection of companies and organisations were able to attend on the day and it has been wonderful to see our pupils fully engaged and inspired from the careers advice that they have received. We hope to run this again in the near future.”

The school will hold a careers fair between 6pm and 8pm on Wednesday, March 14 for year nine to year 13 pupils from local schools to explore career opportunities and network with representatives from a variety of local and national companies.
