ECONOMICS students organised their first-ever student conference which was attended by likeminded individuals from other schools.
Students from The Marist, Sunninghill, hosted the event and gave speeches to a packed room of pupils from Charters, St George’s and Charterhouse.
“It seemed like such a huge task at first,” said year 12 student from The Marist, Roisin, who helped organise the event with three other students.
“But I’m so glad that it worked out and it all came together. I hope this event continues in the years to come as it’s such a great opportunity for students to come and meet topics that affect us all.”
Roisin and classmates Dione, Eleanor and Pabi spent more than three months organising the day.
They contacted and invited the schools, arranged speakers and created information packs for the event.
More than 170 students attended.
Subjects discussed at the conference included the effect of Artificial Intelligence and automation on the economy as how large the gender pay gap really is.
They also discussed how economics affects other world issues.
