A NEW campaign has been launched by a group of women from Surrey and Berkshire.

The Shoebox4Syria appeal is being run by the Gossip Girls for Refugees - a group that born out of social media, who came together after little Aylan Kurdi washed up on the shores of Kos in Greece.

People are urged to behind the appeal to fill the boxes with small but specific items so the group can then sound them out as part of a larger shipment leaving for Syria.

A previous campaign saw enough aid to four 40 foot shipping containers.
Volunteer Emily Highmore-Talbot said: "'Everyone was enthusiastic and so overwhelmingly generous with their time and donations. We were able to send a container to Lesbos, Eidomeni, Syria and Hungary!

"What we did learn from all the sorting and packing stages was just how much children wanted to get involved and help us."

The idea is for children to root around for pocket money items such as clean cuddly toys and snacks, the kind of thing can't be brought abroad.

Drop off points including Ascot Day Nursery in Fernbank Road, North Ascot, L'Ieno Delights Cafe in Market Street, Maidenhead, Treacle Cafe in Chapman's Courtyard, High Street, Sunninghill, Paws Nursery School in Hayley Green, Warfield and St John's Church in Church Lane, Windlesham.

The end date is next Monday, (May 9).
