An announcement from the Prime Minister about plans to build a third runway at Heathrow is expected later today.

It is due to take place at 6.30pm, followed by a press conference at 7pm with the Transport Secretary.

A number of campaign groups across the Royal Borough, under the umbrella organisation Communities Against Airfract Noise - including Chavey Down Residents' Association and PlaneDAFT representing Ascot, Sunningdale, Sunninghill -

Kate Mann, from PlaneDAFT - Defending Ascot's Future Today, said: "I can only hope that the announcement today confirms that the Government are delaying their decision due to environmental concerns.

"Heathrow are already operating outside the legal limit on emissions and an expanded airport will quite obviously lead to an increase. Heathrow propaganda tries to claim that the planes are not the problem, it's the cars and other vehicles around Heathrow.

"However, part of their proposal is to widen the M25 to 16 lanes, so it's clear that the noxious gases will only increase, which is completely unacceptable.

"Until Heathrow can operate at their current size, within the legal emissions limit, I just don't know any decision to expand can morally and legally be made. We await the announcement with trepidation and hope that common sense prevails."
