A SUNNINGHILL salon has been named and shamed in a shocking list of employers who have failed to pay their staff the national minimum wage.

Leo Mancini Hair and Beauty Salon in Silwood Road, Sunninghill, has been revealed in the line up of 115 companies who collectively owed workers over £389,000 in areas, released by HM Revenue & Customs.

The exclusive hairdressers, which was originally established by creative director Leo Mancini under the name of Love Goddess Hair, until it rebranded in 2012, was found to have neglected to pay £1,022.83 to one worker.

Big names on the list include Monsoon Accessorize which failed to pay £104,507.83 to 1438 workers and Subway stores in Morden, Barbican, Richmond and Twickenham, London, which owed £2,466.77 to 10 workers.

The "naming and shaming" scheme was revised in October 2013 to make it simpler expose businesses who do not follow rules around adequately paying their staff.

Since it was introduced 400 employers have outed, with total arrears of over £1,181,000 and total penalties of over £513,000.

On October 1 th[s year the national minimum wage rose to £6.70 per hour.

HMRC has also launched a national campaign to encourage compliance in the hairdressing sector to encourage employers to check they are paying their employees correctly and ensure any outstanding arrears are paid back to employees.

Business Minister Nick Boles said: “Employers that fail to pay the minimum wage hurt the living standards of the lowest paid and their families.

“As a one nation government on the side of working people we are determined that everyone who is entitled to the National Minimum Wage receives it.

“Next April we will introduce a new National Living Wage which will mean a £900-a-year pay rise for someone working full time on the minimum wage and we will enforce this equally robustly.”

When approached for a comment by the Ascot News Leo Mancini confirmed that the payment referred to a part-time apprentice and that she believed she had paid her the correct amount, as stipulated by the apprenticeship company who arranged it.

She said the payment has since been resolved.
