The light-hearted race, the ‘Lamb National’, formed part of a countryside-themed day at the historic course.

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall added a royal presence to the events.

Prince Charles’s namesake day at Ascot, the Prince’s Countryside Fund Raceday, saw thousands of people turn out to enjoy a traditional glamorous day of jumps racing, as well as fun and games for the whole family.

Little ones could enjoy an afternoon of Easter activities and a talk from ‘TV royalty’ Ant and Dec, all while keeping an eye out for a hidden Lindt chocolate bunny in a special Easter hunt.

Among the racegoers were celebrity gardener and presenter Alan Titchmarsh,, ex-Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts and Alex James of Blur.

Top jockey AP McCoy, 19-time racing champion, raced at Ascot for the very last time – he has announced he will retire after April’s Grand National – and received an award from the Prince himself for his 20 years of racing success.

Away from the excitement and champagne of the stands, the racing saw Special Agent, a six-year-old bred for flat racing and owned by the Queen, storm ahead to clinch victory for Her Majesty.
