Banners and signs have been draped across fences and front gardens along Locks Ride calling for the council to refuse planning permission for new homes on land in Winkfield Row.

Residents say the influx of people to the area would place too much pressure on roads, schools, doctors and utilities and Winkfield Parish Council say it is 'incredulous’ that developers can challenge a planning inspector’s decision to leave the area out of the council’s site allocation plan. The banners, which went up last week, outline the residents’ adamant objections to the plans, which would see 88 houses built along with an access road and open space by developers Gladman.

Louisa Vicos, a resident of Locks Ride, said: “Everyone in the road signed the petition and this is just another way to show our angst.

“We have been talking about doing something and then everyone decided putting out banners was a good idea.

“We are going to fight it all the way - it’s taken us three times to get a garage in our front garden approved, so if the council put the development through without considering the impact then it would be ridiculous.

“We are completely against the plans, it would ruin the area.” A petition against the plans has now been signed by more than 100 residents, and a further 120 individual objection letters have been sent to Bracknell Forest Council. Residents say they have not had a response from the developers following the hanging of the banners but that they 'would not expect to’.

In further protests, a group of residents gathered along the road on Tuesday evening with 88 red balloons in protest at the plans - one balloon for each proposed house.
