Up to 33 people will be selected to act as charter bearer and help carry a replica of the famous document down the River Thames as part of the River Relay on the weekend of June 13 and 14.
The lucky few chosen will ride on the Royal Shallop Jubilant on the various legs of the river tour. Sunningdale councillor Christine Bateson, Royal Borough cabinet member for community partnerships, added: “Along with the replica, charter bearers will help pass on the meaning, spirit and legacy of Magna Carta and be part of the vibrant colour and pageantry on the river.” Nominations are now open and community groups – including local faith groups, charities, schools, clubs and societies – are all invited to make nominations explaining why they feel the person should be considered for the role.
The nominees must live, work or study in the Royal Borough, Runnymede or Spelthorne and be over 16 years old by June 12, 2015.
The application form can be found at www.rbwm.gov.uk/web/museum_mc800_river_relay_charter_bearers.htm and completed online or posted. The closing date is Thursday, April 2. The names of those chosen will be announced by the end of April.
