The following cases were heard at Reading Magistrates' Court between July 30 and August 4.

Peter Paul John KELLY, 48, of no fixed abode, admitted to racially/religiously aggravated intentional harassment/ alarm/distress and a further count of breaching a criminal behaviour order. On July 28 at the Accident & Emergency department of the Royal Berkshire Hospital, he was shouting and swearing at police officers and hospital staff. He was committed to prison for 12 weeks and ordered to pay a surcharge of £115.

ROY ANTHONY DAVIS, 45, of no fixed abode, admitted to stealing steak worth £45 from Tesco and activated a suspended sentence of six weeks in prison. Magistrates deemed the offence to be serious, as he had previously carried out 92 thefts. He was ordered to pay compensation of £45.

ANGELA CHRISTINE STEVENS, 33, of Salcombe Road, Reading, admitted to five counts of theft from a shop, having stolen items such as toys, meat and Easter eggs from various stores. She also admitted to commission of a further offence while subject to a conditional discharge order and failing to surrender to custody. A community order was made and she must complete 20 days of a rehabilitation activity requirement. She was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £85.

JORDAN ALEXANDER DOWNEY, 23, of Haywood Way, Reading, admitted to breaching the requirements of a community order made by Reading Magistrates’ Court. A community order was made and he must complete a rehabilitation activity requirement for 15 days. He was also ordered to pay costs of £60.

DYLAN MAKEPEACE, 19, of York Road, Caversham, admitted to failing without reasonable excuse to comply with the requirements of a community order imposed by Reading Magistrates’ Court. He was fined £60 and ordered to pay costs of £160.

MATTHEW SLADE, 45, of Quentin Road, Woodley, admitted to failing without reasonable excuse to comply with the requirements of a community order imposed by Reading Magistrates’ Court. He was fined £40 and made to pay costs of £60.

SAMUEL MICHAEL DAVID WARD, 27, of Mead Close, Caversham, admitted to failing without reasonable excuse to comply with the requirements of a community order imposed by Reading Magistrates’ Court. He was committed to prison for 16 weeks, suspended for 12 months. He must complete a rehabilitation activity requirement for 30 days and he was ordered to pay costs of £60.

COLIN SIMON CHARLES, 38, of Cranbourne Gardens, Tilehurst, admitted to failing without reasonable excuse to comply with the requirements of a community order imposed by Reading Magistrates’ Court. He was committed to prison for a term of 18 weeks suspended for 12 months. He was also ordered to pay costs of £125.

CHRISSIE SANDRA OVERTON, 44, of Millers Court, Caversham, admitted to stealing meat and a handbag from a shop. She also failed without reasonable cause to surrender to custody at Reading Magistrates' Court. A community order was made and she must complete 12 days of a rehabilitation activity requirement. She must pay compensation of £27 and a surcharge of £58.

SRISKANTHARAJAH KUPENTHIRAN, 42, of Kingsbridge Road, Reading, admitted to assault by beating and received a community order. He must complete a rehabilitation activity requirement for 30 days. He was ordered to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge of £85.

MARTIN OWUSU ASANTE, 42, of Gairn Close, Tilehurst, denied failing to provide a specimen for analysis and was convicted after trial. A community order was made and he must complete 80 hours of unpaid work. He was disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for 14 months and ordered to pay costs of £500.
