TWO thousand fun-runners descended on Prospect Park to get splattered with coloured powder in aid of a hospice charity.

Runners of all ages and abilities joined forces to raise an estimated £10,000 for the Sue Ryder Duchess of Kent Hospice, in Liebenrood Road, at the annual Colour Rush on Sunday, August 12.

Participants braved the rain to be pelted with coloured powder as they completed the 5km circuit of the park.

Once they crossed the finishing line, the runners celebrated with a commemorative t-shirt and a medal.

Laura Kell, Head of Hospice Fundraising at Sue Ryder Duchess of Kent said: “Wow, we had such a brilliant and colourful day cheering on everyone who took part and we are so grateful to those who raised sponsorship for our charity. We are nearing the £10,000 mark from people’s fundraising efforts, which could pay for 100 visits from our Sue Ryder community nurses - they work closely with families, GPs and other community teams to ensure patients receive expert care personalised to their needs.

"Whether we’re supporting people in the hospice or their own homes, our focus is on quality of life, giving every patient the care and support they need to spend the time they have left in the way they choose.”
