CHILDREN and young people are being invited to take part in a writing and art competition to commemorate the First World War centenary.

Working in partnership with the Royal British Legion, Bracknell Town Council are inviting young people aged nine to 18 to take part in this historic project to remember the end of the Great War in 1918.

Participants are asked to create an expression of poetry that says 'thank you' to the generation that served, sacrificed and changed the world.

Every child who takes part in the competition will receive a personalised Certificate of Commendation, to thank them for playing their part in commemorating the centenary of the First World War.

At the end of the project, the submissions will be mad into a book which will hopefully be published.

Students from Garth Hill College attended a workshop by councillor Gill Birch which will be extended to more schools in the autumn term.

Cllr Birch said: "The students were attentive, listened well and asked informative questions. The students are a credit Garth Hill College."

The deadline for submitting artwork or poetry to Bracknell Town Council is October 1. To get involved, email enquiries@bracknelltowncouncil.gov.uk
