A PARALYMPIC rower was the guest of honour at a Wokingham school's end of year presentation evening.

Helene Raynsford, who won gold at the 2008 Beijing games, gave an inspirational speech to students, staff and parents at St Crispin's School, in London Road, on how she had overcome challenges in her life, from suffering a head injury at the age of 21 leaving her wheelchair bound, to studying for her masters in neuroscience.

The Mayor of Wokingham Borough, Cllr John Kaiser, and the Wokingham Town Mayor, Cllr Julian McGhee-Sumner, were on-hand to assist handing out the awards to deserving students.

Headteacher Ginny Rhodes said: "I have no doubt that these students receiving recognition and prizes are young people who have risen to or indeed overcome “challenges” in the approach of their studies."
