THE TOWN centre will hold a proms evening for the first time since its opening.

The Lexicon Proms has been confirmed for July 14, and will feature multiple different musical acts throughout the evening.

The event has been organised off the back of the Royal Wedding open air viewing party held in the town centre.

Headlining the event is the Boogie Woogie Gals, who will perform songs from war time, the '40s and the '50s.

The Reading Community Gospel Choir, which boasts members ranging from 14-70 years-old.

Bracknell and Wokingham College Community Band will complete the evening's performers. The 50 piece wind band have performed before in the town centre.

Sue Boor, head of marketing at The Lexicon says: “The Royal Wedding open-air viewing, created such a positive and vibrant atmosphere in the town centre, we thought that a summer Proms event would give people another opportunity to come together again.

“We are delighted to have secured three very different acts and are confident that everyone will find themselves humming along to a tune or two.”

A mobile bar will be situated in the square, selling wine, beer, soft drinks. An ice cream van will also be on hand.
