PARAMEDICS escaped without injury after their blue-light flashing ambulance collided with a car in a frightening crash.

The two members of NHS staff had attended an emergency incident and were on their way back to the hospital when their vehicle was in collision with a black Ford Focus.

Pictures showed significant damage to the black car while the front end of the ambulance appeared to have sustained heavy damage.

However, it has now been revealed that nobody suffered significant injuries as a result of the crash, which happened near the Showcase Cinema roundabout in Winnersh.

A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service said: "Whilst transporting a patient to hospital under emergency light conditions, an ambulance was in collision with a car on the A3290 at Winnersh.

"Fortunately the driver of the car involved only sustained minor injuries and the two members of staff in the ambulance were shaken but uninjured. The patient being transported was also uninjured as a result of the collision.

"A second ambulance was sent to the incident to transfer the original patient and continue their journey to the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

"A further ambulance and two ambulance officers in rapid response vehicles were also sent to assess the two members of staff and car driver involved in the collision.

"All three were assessed and cleared at the scene as not requiring hospital treatment.”

The crash, which happened shortly before 2.30pm on Monday, caused a massive queue of traffic.

Motorists could be seen standing outside their vehicles in the scorching heat.

Speaking at the time of the incident, an eye-witness said: "The ambulance was smashed right in.

"It was just a mess.

"The traffic is already a nightmare."
