BOOZED-UP PUNTERS are in for a shock at Royal Ascot this week, as one bookmaker has revealed a mobile unit designed to get them off the streets.

Paddy Power has launched 'The Drunk Tank', a mobile accommodation unit for race-goers who have had too much to drink.

Staff will go around the streets of Ascot carting off drunks in wheelbarrows, before transferring them to 'The Drunk Tank', where they can sleep off the booze.

This publicity stunt comes with a serious message, however, as a survey of racing fans revealed that 80 percent would avoid bigger race meetings to avoid fan trouble.

A Paddy Power spokesman said: “Every year we watch thousands of dashing gents and glamourous ladies descending on Ascot. But, the mere whiff of a Prosecco cork seems to set them off. By the second race they’re rolling around the Royal enclosure like wild animals. Our Drunk Tank team will be patrolling the streets of Ascot to ensure the drunks don’t spoil things for residents and decent race-loving folk.”

The survey of race-goers found that the top five worst things to witness during a day at the races are the following;

The sight of someone vomiting (62%)

People urinating in public (59%)

Catfight/brawls (52%)

People engaging in sexual activity in public (49%)

People chanting and singing laddish inappropriate songs (43%)

Record-breaking jockey and Paddy Power Racing Ambassador Ruby Walsh said: “I’ve been shocked by the scenes of violence we've seen at racing events recently. It's not something you want to see on a night out let alone a day at the races. There's no place in any society for that kind of behaviour to be honest.”
