A GRIEVING family have donated their father's beloved cameras to a college so that his passion for photography can live on through its students.

Kirstine Berry donated cameras and photography equipment to Bracknell & Wokingham College after her father passed away.

She said: "Dad spent the early 1990's teaching himself about photography, focal lengths, filters, all sorts and amassed a significant collection of cameras, photography equipment and photos.

"To me and my sister the camera equipment had no financial value, but a great deal of emotional value. We remember family holidays with Dad taking photos with those cameras and the times he was set up in his shed adjusting shutter lengths or focal lengths or whatever he was doing with his homemade photo booth.

"We couldn't just throw the cameras away and wanted them to 'live on'. Dad would be so pleased to see people gaining knowledge and practical knowledge from his legacy and it provides my sister and I with some comfort knowing that some good can come out of such a terrible personal tragedy."

Photography lecturer Nick Brewer said: "We often receive donations of camera’s equipment from generous members of public but what made this stand out was the lovely letter that accompanied it. It’s a Pentax camera which is a quality brand and the heritage of the previous owner made it even more special.

"The great thing about analogue photography is that it slows learners down and makes them consider more carefully before making a photograph. I love the fact that students are learning the craft of photography in a methodical and traditional way. They seem to enjoy it too."
