A CHARITY in Wokingham is celebrating recruiting 15 new volunteer drivers thanks to a community grant.

Members of the Wokingham Volunteer Centre received the £1,000 Vodafone Community Connection Award in April 2017, which has helped them place an additional 15 drivers within the local area.

The centre works to place volunteers across a wide range of community, voluntary and charitable groups and projects, and to promote the benefits of volunteering in the local community.

Helena Badger, Volunteer Development Co-ordinator, entered the charity for the award and said “A huge thanks to Vodafone for this donation. The money has helped to fund our Transport Scheme, which enables over 500 local elderly and disabled people to get to essential medical appointments across the borough and beyond. Without it, we could not run this invaluable service which really does make a difference to so many Wokingham residents.”

Jonathan Langlands, Vodafone Store Manager in Wokingham, said “It’s fantastic that we were able to help Wokingham Volunteer Centre. They are very much the unsung heroes who provide a service to both charities and people who want to volunteer – it is a privilege to be able to support them."
