A FIVE-year-old girl from a Wokingham school has been recognised by comedian David Walliams for her creative drawing skills.

Matilda Shakespeare, who is in the Magpie Class in Reception at Walter Infant School, in Murray Road, entered a competition to design the front cover of the Radio Times to commemorate the Royal Wedding.

Out of more than 8,000 entries, which included every other child at her school, Matilda's colourful drawing was chosen by David Walliams as one of his 20 favourites, landing the young artist with a signed copy of his new Gangsta Granny book, and a certificate.

Headteacher Judy Wheeler said: "Every child at Walter Infant School entered the competition in the Radio Times and we are incredibly proud of all them, however, we knew Matilda Shakespeare’s entry was particularly special because of her wonderful drawing and writing skills, so we were not surprised to find out that it was one of David Walliam’s favourites.

"Another child, Nia Beckett , who is in Year 2, was in the top 60 which is amazing considering there were over 8,000 entries. What talented children we have."
