A BY-election is to be held by Wokingham Town Council following the resignation of disgraced councillor Petter Lucey.

Lucey, who held the position of town councillor for Norreys East and town mayor for 2017/18, resigned in April after a series of inflammatory social media messages came to light.

The Conservative councillor was forced to step down after allegedly making Islamophobic comments on Twitter, and following controversial accounts on the social media platform.

A by-election to replace him has been called for Thursday, June 21.

All nomination papers must be hand-delivered to the Returning Officer at the borough council's Shute End offices no later than 4pm on Thursday, May 24.

The deadline for postal vote applications is 5pm on Wednesday, June 6, and proxy applications by 5pm on Wednesday, June 13.

Polling cards will be sent out to affected households in due course.
