AN item which was believed to be an unexploded World War Two bomb unearthed in Wokingham was actually a harmless gas canister.
Thames Valley Police officers were called to a construction site in Bell Foundry Lane at around 3.45pm on Wednesday, following reports of an unexploded device, suspected to be historic ordinance.
A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said on Thursday morning: "The site was evacuated and road closures in Twyford Road, Wiltshire Road and Matthewsgreen Road were put in place while bomb disposal teams investigated the site.
"The device was later found to be a harmless gas canister.
"Everyone was allowed back in their homes and back on site by 7.00pm."
