DOZENS of schoolchildren in Finchampstead made the most of the glorious weather on Saturday by taking part in a sponsored walk.

Pupils from Finchampstead School and their parents took part in the five- or 15-mile hike around the picturesque countryside to raise money for the school and hospice charity Sue Ryder.

Nearly 60 people took part in the walks, with the youngest participant aged just five-years-old, and the oldest in their 70s.

Arranged by the Friends of Finchampstead School Association (FOFSA), the walk took in woodland, river and farm trails across Finchampstead, Farley hill, Bramshill and Eversley.

The walkers were welcomed back at the school with a spread of well-deserved cakes. It is not yet known how much money has been raised.

Amanda De Meyer, on behalf of FOFSA said "Thank you so much to everyone who took part and to those who have generously sponsored us. There was a great spirit among the walkers who encouraged each other all the way. It was much further than many had walk before and the children showed great determination to complete the very hilly course. The children did so well to complete the course and it shows the focus on keeping fit at school pays off! We were very pleased to raise money for the school and for a charity so close to our hearts."
