BIRTHDAY celebrations turned sour for a reveller who finished his night in a police cell.

The 28-year-old, who had been out with friends partying ended up abusing officers after smashing up a friend’s car, a court heard.

Lee Millard, of Bishopdale, Bracknell, was out with friends celebrating his 28th birthday on January 11 when things took a turn for the worse.

Millard was being driven home in a friend’s Ford Transit Van when he decided to pull up the handbrake in the middle of the road.

The van swerved on the road but didn’t hit anything, the court heard.

Millard’s friend didn’t take too kindly to this incident and decided to drive back to his own home, rather than dropping Millard off.

The court heard that it was at this point that things went downhill.

Mitigating, Sally Thompson said: “His friend went inside and locked himself in [the house].

“He had a falling out with Mr Millard after the handbrake incident, and Mr Millard caused damage to the front door trying to get in.”

After he was unable to gain access to the house by smashing in the front door, Millard jumped onto a car on the driveway, smashing the windscreen and causing £430 worth of damage, the court heard.

He was arrested at the scene, and admitted that when police arrived, he was racially abusive to one officer, and assaulted two others, including putting one in a headlock.

Millard admitted that he was in possession of cannabis at the time.

He originally denied all the charges, but when brought before Reading Magistrates Court on April 16, changed his plea. His counsel admitted this was after viewing the body-cam footage taken by police on that night.

The court was played video of Millard’s arrest, where he attempted to spit at an officer, and called another “Mixed race T****** c***”

On April 17, Millard was handed a six month jail sentence, suspended for two years. He was also fined £2,048.
