A NEW skate park will be the newest addition to the radically changing town.

The park to be built on London Road, Wokingham near St Crispin's leisure centre will feature three sections, each specifically designed to improve different elements of a skaters ability.

The main section will use a variety of heights and transitions while the 'rhythm' section separates faster and slower routes making it suitable for all levels.

The final section provides an additional area good for learning and skills development that will allow the park to accommodate more users on busy days.

Councillor Norman Jorgensen, executive member for environment, sports, environmental health, leisure and libraries said: “This is going to be a fantastic new facility for young people in the borough.

"The old equipment had become outdated and we know skaters and other potential users have been going elsewhere for better parks.

The park has been designed with a user-group of keen local skaters and BMX riders and will bring St Crispin’s Skate Park up-to-date with the latest equipment.

Cllr Jorgensen added: "With the new equipment we are putting in, we will soon see a thriving skate scene re-established at the park.”

Work began on November 21 with the removal of the existing metal equipment, before replacing them with new concrete structures.

The new park is expected to open next year with an opening celebration planned for Spring.
