LET us take a moment and put ourselves in a completely unimaginable situation.

You woke up this morning to find out that the military have taken control of the state broadcasters, the Prime Minister has been detained at Downing Street and the army are patrolling the streets in tanks to ensure peace among the people.

For the small southern African nation of Zimbabwe, this insanity became a reality. Could we be about to witness the end of one of the world’s oldest living leaders? Will it happen without bloodshed?

I look back to my childhood in Zimbabwe with mixed feelings as the despicable happenings of yesteryear have shaped the lives of millions of people, myself included.

Close on 100,000 Zimbabweans have moved to the UK to escape the Robert Mugabe wrath and the outcome of the coming weeks may result in thousands more fleeing.

Can you imagine needing a coup to fix your country? Can you imagine being forced to leave your home for your safety?

Stop for a moment and imagine what life would be like, and spare a thought for the people around the world who would give their soul for the peace we so easily take for granted.
