A DRINK-driver who claimed her mum’s boozy spaghetti sent her over the limit has been slapped with a large fine.
On April 7 at 11.45pm police officers spotted Amy Shingles’s Audi TT parked in the middle of double white lines on London Road, Ascot.
The 23 year-old admitted drink driving, but argued it was a quantity of cooking wine in a spaghetti bolognese that had tipped her over the edge after she had enjoyed two pints of beer.
On August 14 at Reading Magistrates’ Court she was disqualified from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay a total of £2,023.
She appealed against her sentence but it was upheld at the hearing at Reading Crown Court on November 7.
PC Tom Dorman, based at Windsor police station, said: “Shingles claimed that her mother had caused her to consume alcohol as part of a meal she prepared which put her over the limit, a fact the courts did not accept.
"She admitted consuming two pints before driving.
“This case shows drink driving will not be tolerated by Thames Valley Police or the courts and there will be consequences for those who break the law.”
