SHOPPERS were trapped inside the town’s brand new shopping centre after several parking machines broke down earlier today, the News understands.

People complained about being stuck inside The Lexicon’s car park as a massive queue of shoppers formed around the ticket machines.

Laura Louise said: “Machines are not working on some floors and only one machine per floor.

"Took over half an hour to get to the front of the queue to then be told the barriers might be lifted.

"Have since been sat in the car unable to move for 20 minutes.

"Total time since we decided to leave is about an hour and we are not even close to being able to exit the car park.”

On Saturday Bracknell Forest Council released the following statement: "We are aware of issues with the speed of card payments at The Avenue car park today and are currently investigating the issue and working to resolve it.

"Thank you to everyone for their patience. Queues have now reduced but we are sorry for the inconvenience it caused. If you are heading to The Lexicon Bracknell and are parking at The Avenue please use cash or contactless card payment.

"Also, please do remember that we have a further two multi-storey car parks within The Lexicon (Braccan Walk and High St), which are all the same price."

Bracknell News apologises for the late addition of this statement from Bracknell Forest Council.
