THE DIRECTOR of a Bracknell funeral parlour has cycled to Paris in aid of the Royal British Legion.

Julian Walker, who first started cycling a year ago, joined hundreds of cyclists to peddal from London to the French capital.

The 48 year-old heads A.B. Walker, which has a branch on Binfield Road and is one of Berkshire's oldest businesses, now run by the fifth generation of Walkers.

"Whenever we went through a village in France people were hanging out of their windows cheering," he said.

"It made the hills feel slightly shorter to have that local support.

"I served as an infantry officer before joining the family business and I know the importance of the support offered by the Royal British Legion."

Mr Walker raised more than £2,000 for the Legion, the nation’s biggest Armed Forces charity, which delivers through life support to Serving personnel, veterans and their families.
