SHOPPERS' fury has resulted in big changes to car parking costs at The Lexicon.

Bracknell Regeneration Partnership as announced changes to the car parking charges for Princess Square Car Park, which will come into effect on Monday, September 18.

Princess Square will remain a short stay car park, but the length of time before the higher charges come into effect has been extended to up to four hours.

The new charges are as follows:

Up to Thirty minutes – 90p

30 minutes to 1 hour - £1.20

1 to 2 hours - £2.00

2-3 hours - £3.00

3-4 hours - £5.00

4 hours to all day - £20.00

Rob Morris, general manager at The Lexicon Bracknell says: “The intention remains to offer shoppers visiting The Lexicon, for an hour or two, a cost effective parking tariff.

"However, we have listened to our customers’ feedback and it has become clear that extending the short stay period from 2 to 4 hours would be well received and we are therefore incorporating new additional charges in-line with customer sentiment.”

The current cost of parking at Princess Square was the cause of much frustration among Lexicon shoppers.

Bracknell man Malcolm Shirley said: "I parked in Princess Square Car Park and went sightseeing for two hours and 20 minutes - we had to walk slow as my mother and a I are both disabled.

"I was disgusted at being charged £10 for car parking fees, we won't be using that car park again.

"It would have been cheaper to have hired a taxi, and then we could have taken our time and even had something to eat."

At present, the cost of parking in Princess Square for two to three hours is £10 and £20 for four hours or more.
