A much loved parish councillor who served as his village's pharmacist for 32 years has died after a long battle against cancer.

Cllr Kishorbhai Laxman, 60, known affectionately to everyone as 'K' was born in India, coming to England with his family when he was eight.

He married his wife Gita in 1980 and moved to Slough.

It was while living there he spotted a shop in Colnbrook High Street. He went on to buy it and make it his own Colnbrook Pharmacy from 1984 until last year, when ill health forced him to give it up.

His work was recognised nationally when he received the national award for Community Pharmacy of the Year in 2013.

A year later he was made an honorary freeman of the parish of Colnbrook - the award being presented to him by the Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire Mary Bayliss.

He served as a parish councillor for almost 20 years. His involvement with the village included fund raising to build the Village Hall, being a vital 'backstage' member of Colnbrook Amateur Stage Theatre and organising the moving and memorable First World War 100th anniversary commemoration.

Long serving parish chairman Cllr Peter Hood said: "'K' was a lovely man, gentle caring, he embodied the spirit of the community.

"When he was nominated for best pharmacy I told the panel I considered 'K' to be the most important person in Colnbrook when it came to community cohesion.

"Only two weeks before he died he was planning this year's Christmas party."

Cllr Laxman was first diagnosed with cancer in 2008 but refused to let it restrict him.

He leaves his wife Gita, children Primal, Nisha and Vinay, daughter-in-law Rishika, son in law Satya and granddaughter Shriya.

On Saturday a horse drawn carriage will take Cllr Laxman's hearse through the village starting around 9.30am, stopping outside the pharmacy.

The funeral is at 11am at South West Middlesex Crematorium in Hounslow Road Feltham.

At 2.30 pm family and all friends are invited to a reception at the Heathrow/Windsor Marriott Hotel,Ditton Road, Langley.

Floral tributes should be delivered by Friday night to Church Meadows, Windsor Road, Wraysbury
