CONTROVERSIAL plans to build over 100 new homes will go before Bracknell Forest Council this evening.

The proposed construction of 116 houses on Watersplash Lane has faced strong opposition from both residents and local authorities.

Warfield Parish Council recommends the plans be refused on the grounds that 'the three storey buildings are out of character with the area, and their location on the higher side of the site makes them protrude.'

A number of Warfield residents have also objected to the plans for the picturesque village, with many strongly opposed to the pedestrian/cycle link included in the plans.

One objector wrote: "To introduce a cycle link on a blind bend would compromise and have a significant impact on highway safety."

The dwellings, if granted planning permission, will include two and a half storey blocks accommodating 16 flats, 100 detached, semi-detached and terraced houses and two, two and a half and three storey. Of those dwellings, 29 are affordable.

'The Western Consortium', made up of three developers, are behind the plans and already have land on Watersplash Lane.

Planning officers have recommended the plans for approval on the condition that a long list of amendments are made, including the construction of a new road to the north-south link road prior to construction starting.
