Rock and roll youngsters performed at their first ever gig over the weekend.

The students were aged 7-18, and all came from The Rock Project Berkshire's classes, including the Bracknell & Woodley group, who rocked out on Sunday July 16.

250 people as well as the Mayor of Reading were in attendance to watch the youngsters performing a variety of songs they've learned through their time at the Rock Project.

One parent said: “It was totally amazing, I cannot believe that was my daughter up there singing on her own, I cannot thank The Rock Project enough.”

Many students sang solos on stage, while others showcased their impressive instrumental skills,

The Rock Project Berkshire was set up to allow youngsters to learn rock and roll music and gain the confidence to perform on stage.

Many of the students have overcome confidence and shyness issues in order to be able to perform on stage to a full audience.

Two Bracknell performers were highlighted for their special performances, with Dylan Nanda and Morgan Meyer both on vocals receiving prizes for their efforts.

Harmeet Nandra, who runs the Rock Project Berkshire, noted that the concert marked the beginning of The Rock Project Berkshire's benevolent fund to help local children in less privileged backgrounds to access music, particularly at a time when music is being reduced or removed from school curriculum.

More details will be available soon, including a series of events to help raise money for the fund.
