HUNDREDS of people turned out to mourn a man at the centre of the Binfield community who died on May 28.
Father and grandfather David John Fawcett was an integral part of village life, working as a maths teacher, parish councillor and churchwarden.
In 2008 he joined the Priestwood Community Centre where he served as treasurer for nine years, in which time he straightened out the group's finances.
He also volunteered as a driver, supported the Gardening Club and took part in bell ringing at St Mark's Church.
Tricia Brown, chair of the Community Centre, said: "A thoroughly decent human being, David was a true gentleman, a devoted family man and very proud of his grandchildren and their achievements. What a phenomenal person.
"David’s funeral service was held on Monday June 19 at All Saints Church in Binfield.
"As befits someone who had a remarkable impact on so many people from the local area, the church was crammed with mourners who came to celebrate the life of a truly inspirational member of the community."
It is asked that donations are made in memory of Mr Fawcett to Christian Aid or Binfield ARC project, which aims to restore All Saints Church.
