Wokingham train station has been highlighted in a new report on the expansion of railway stations.

In 2013 a £6m redevelopment of the station was completed, with the station now unrecognisable from it's original form.

In today's report from the Rail Delivery Group (RDG), Wokingham was highlighted as a template for future developments, due to the success of the changes.

The road link from Wokingham station and the introduction of the multi-story car park, along with the new main building were the main points in the report that were noted.

Councillor David Lee, executive member for strategic highways and planning at Wokingham Borough Council said: “Our part of the project – the new Station Link Road – has helped to improve transport connections to and from the new station and ease congestion. But it’s also benefited the wider community and businesses.”

Margaret Kay, Managing Director for South West Trains, said: "We're delighted that the Wokingham station redevelopment has been recognised in the RDG report.

"The feedback from the local community and businesses has been overwhelmingly positive and we're delighted the Wokingham redevelopment is seen as a blueprint for future station redevelopments."
