RACEGOERS basked in glorious sunshine for the second day of Royal Ascot 2017.

Rubbing shoulders with dozens of famous faces crowds descended upon the famous course for day two of the racing action.

Thousands of racegoers warmed up (and cooled down!) for a full day of racing with fans in one hand, sipping Pimms with the other, while picking out their winners.

There was a huge buzz of excitement all around the grounds hours before the action got underway at the historic course which glistened in the 30 degree heat.

Almost 300,000 racegoers are expected at Royal Ascot until the annual meeting’s close on Saturday.

The sunshine brought out a wide range of flamboyant hats and colourful dresses, as those melting in black hats and tails in the Royal Enclosure looked on in envy.

In the afternoon, Her Majesty, and other members of the Royal Family, made the traditional procession up Ascot’s Straight Mile towards the finishing post.

There were fears the Queen would miss the day's racing after being summoned to the Opening of Parliament in Westminster. However she was able to deliver the Queen's speech and then travel to Ascot for the day's racing.
