DEVOTED pug owners came together for a sponsored walk to raise money for pugs in need, writes Thea Jacobs.

On June 4, the Wokingham Pugs Facebook group, which has 500 members, raised over £1,100 for the MuffinPug Rescue Charity in their second annual charity walk.

During the two hour event the group’s members and their pooches were treated to a pop-up pug bakery, raffle, tombola and an agility course.

Wendy Mallandain, pug rescuer and the group’s organiser, said: “As a muffin pug mum, having adopted my one year old who had been living in a shed for months before being rescued, it makes me so proud to help organise these events.”

The group’s walk was part of a national event which saw 400 pugs snuffle along in purple bandanas for the charity.

Ms Mallandain added: “The money raised from the walk will help so many other desperate pugs needing help with financial assistance which helps pay for any vet assistance they may need.”

Wokingham Pugs were aided in their fundraising efforts by local businesses including HIIT The Floor and The Greyhound in Finchampstead who contributed prizes for the tombola and raffle.

MuffinPug provides specialist care for pugs and due to the breads popularity has seen a surge in dogs needing help.

Once a pug is rescued the charity provides medical treatment, training and re-homing for pugs in need.
