I have been busy with my garden this week, and ducking in and out between showers I am rather pleased with how it’s looking.
As long as we don’t go off peas, broad beans, runner beans and tomatoes, we will be set for fresh produce for the next few months!
I always grow more than I need (just in case) and I have been putting the extra plants on a table in our front drive for people to help themselves.
I simply put it out there that if folk would like to pop a coin in the pot for The Thames Hospice charity, then thank you.
I am amazed by how many people have done just that, and it is so good to know the old fashioned ‘honesty pot’ does still work, even in this day and age.
The cash is building up nicely, and when the plants have all gone I will send a cheque to the charity.
Unfortunately, though, I have discovered a mouse (or two) has set up home in my greenhouse and is feasting off my peas! Well, I wouldn’t wilfully kill any living thing, but enough is enough.
Taking a deep breath I stormed into my favourite hardware store and asked for a mousetrap. I was asked if I wanted it to be humane but slow or quick and fatal.
I suddenly wasn’t sure I wanted one at all. That mouse is kind of cute. And...well, what’s a few peas between friends?
I did buy the trap. It is sitting in my workshop waiting for me to read the instructions, which I just may lose.
Sorry, folks, I just can’t do it.
