PROSPECTIVE foster parents are being invited to head to a roadshow to learn more about welcoming a new member into their family.

A touring session of nine roadshows across the borough will look to welcome more families to the 51 fostering households who help care for 120 children.

The borough needs more carers willing to take on children, especially for teenagers.

Lorna Hunt, chief officer for children’s social care, said: "Fostering a child is an incredibly rewarding experience which truly transforms young people’s lives, as well as the lives of carers.

"We need more people to come forward and take on this special role.

"We also need the support of local organisations to join us in raising awareness of the need for more foster carers in the borough.

"If you would like to find out more about how you can get involved, please do come along to one of our sessions or visit our website to download our new guide to fostering."

The sessions will cover the support allowances and training available for foster carers.

The fostering drop-in sessions coincide with national Foster Care Fortnight.
