MORE than 80 new jobs are set to be created for the people of Bracknell when a new department store opens its doors in the newly-regenerated town.

Fenwick has unveiled its full plans for a new 80,000 sq ft shop, due to open in The Lexicon development in Bracknell in autumn 2017.

Designed by retail consultancy HMKM, the department store will host international designers Coach, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Max Mara, Armani, Hugo Boss, Gant, Ralph Lauren, a denim studio, shoe emporium and cosmetics from Charlotte Tilbury, MAC and Jo Malone.

The space will include The Wine store, part of a new restaurant concept from Fuego and Mason & Rye where shoppers will be able to relax and grab a bite to eat.

Anchor tenant, Fenwick, has been a long-standing supporter of the project and has attempted to design the new store with the green credentials and modern design.

Commenting on the new store the group’s chairman, Mark Fenwick, said: "We are delighted to be opening a new Fenwick store in Bracknell and are a strong supporter of The Lexicon.

"This great new town centre would never have happened without the foresight of Bracknell Forest Council and the perseverance and partnership of Legal and General and Schroder."

As part of the larger plan however, Fenwick plans to close its store in King Edward Court, Windsor, which has been open for 37 years and has survived the departure of the John Lewis store, Caleys and many others from the High Street.

Prior to the lease expiring in 2015, the store's chiefs tried to find a suitable option for the store to relocate but were unable to.

Fenwick will now begin a consultation period with its employees and with the new store opening in The Lexicon all employees will be offered a role in Bracknell.

Mark Fenwick, said: "The decision to close has been particularly difficult for the company, the family and me personally, as we have been committed to serving the people of Windsor for over 30 years.

"We have always seen Windsor as a perfect Fenwick town, where our particularly fashion orientated, specialist store offer would thrive. Unfortunately we were unable to find a suitable alternative location.

"We would like to offer our thanks to the loyal management and our colleagues for their years of dedication to the store. Now our Windsor employees and customers will be our top priority."

Fenwick store director, Pam Muchan added: "I want to take this opportunity to thank our outstanding members of staff, many of whom I’ve had the pleasure of working with over the years.

"Their commitment and dedication is in no way a reflection of this decision and I will now be focusing all of my energy on ensuring they are fully supported throughout the consultation process."
