AN Easthampstead mum has spoken of her horror after her son’s faulty drone filled her home with smoke.
Ebony Malone’s son, Harley, 12, bought a drone from Amazon on Thursday, January 5 with some leftover Christmas money.
After playing with the drone for a matter of minutes, it died and had to be charged.
The JJRC mini hexacopter drone, which Harley paid £17 for, had only just been put on charge before a hole melted through the charger.
Ebony said: “Within 30 seconds of plugging it in, the room was full of smoke. Harley shouted ‘mum it stinks’. It smelt like chemicals.”
The mum of three then called Amazon and was offered a refund and a container to send it back.
She said that she also only received an apology after posting a photo online.
“The only time I had a verbal apology was when I told them I had put it on social media," she said.
"I told them what happened and I think it’s disgusting that they only called because they had seen it was on social media.”
Amazon say that they have offered Ebony a gift card as well as a full refund and have taken the drone off sale.
A spokesman said: “All Marketplace sellers must follow our selling guidelines and those who don’t will be subject to action including potential removal of their account. The product in question is no longer available.”
