A PRESENTER from BBC Radio 2 will be jockeying for position at the DJ decks on the UK's richest race day at Ascot Racecourse next Saturday.

Sara Cox, well-known to listeners for her Friday evening show Sounds of the '80s, will be spinning tracks from that golden era of pop music at the after party of the QIPCO British Champions Day on Saturday October 15.

The 41-year-old is excited to be asked to play out the night with an eclectic mix of hits, alongside UK chart-topper Sigala.

She said: "I performed at Champions Day a couple of years ago and had an absolute blast so I’m really excited to be back again this year.

"It is the big final for the flat racing season, so it's great that the Racecourse is hiring DJs to continue the party.

"There is a real sense of occasion about the day and I love getting dressed up for it."

Ms Cox is also looking forward to seeing champion Ascot jockey Frankie Dettori back in the saddle.

She had the privilege of meeting the former Magnificent Seven winner for a riding lesson earlier in the year.

"It will be really great to see Frankie racing again after he won the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket. A really nice way to cap off the season," she added.

"The chance to ride with him was a lot like that 'If Carlsberg Did' advert."

The Bolton-born Radio 2 staple is a self-confessed racing fanatic, having been riding since the age of six.

She clinched the autograph of former racing champion Willie Carson when she was 11 and now currently exercises a retired racehorse on a regular basis.

"I have been lucky enough to ride in a couple of charity races. I love being near the horses and the jockeys work so hard," she went on.

Ms Cox is planning on heading to the races in style, in a minibus with her mum and best mates.

She said: "I’ve told them all to dress up as it’s quite a glamorous affair but to remember to be comfortable as you want to be able to move around freely and jump up and down if you’ve backed a winner!"
