CHARTERS School pupils achieved GCSE results well above the national average despite an overall national decline.

A total of 245 students completed their exams this summer with 78 per cent overall achieving A*-C English and maths combined.

Overall the school's Attainment 8 fine grade - under the Government's new measures - was B-.

Its Progress 8 score was 0.43, calculated using 2015 national data.

Co-headteachers Richard Pilgrim and Martyn Parker said: "We are very pleased with these results as they provide a true reflection of the hard work of both students and staff.

"Against a backdrop of continual educational change we are delighted that 82.8 per cent of all examination entries gained grades A*-C and 36.5 per cent of entries were graded A*/A. This means that the pupils have given themselves the best opportunity for their future whether they join the sixth form or take up a college course or gain employment with training.

Charters student Connor Jackson said: "I am very pleased with my results and over-achieved, particularly in the science subjects. The hard work was all worthwhile and I am grateful for the support of my teachers."
