A MAJOR revamp on a road near Reading costing £1.1million has been completed two weeks ahead of schedule.

Lanes on the A3290/A392M Loddon Viaduct at Winnersh have been closed since July 22 but will open again tomorrow from 6.00am.

Wokingham Borough Council said due to good weather the work was less than at first anticipated and therefore was able to be completed ahead of schedule.

“I'd like to thank everyone who uses the Loddon Viaduct for being patient with us while this essential work was carried out,” said Cllr Malcolm Richards.

The executive member for highways and transport also thanked those for taking alternative routes or allowing more time for their journeys.

He added: “We appreciate the roadworks have been an inconvenience for road users but we are delighted they have been completed ahead of schedule.

“We know how important this route is and our contractors have been working around the clock to get the job done.”

Angry drivers have reported major delays during the process, with some saying their journey time has doubled much to their inconvenience.

The repairs are part of a major product which has seen the old and noisy joints on the viaduct replaced, safety barriers installed, better drainage and a resurfacing of the carriageway.

The council repaired and upgraded the northern (eastbound towards Bracknell) carriageway of the viaduct two summers.

But with the latest work now complete, Wokingham Borough Council believe work to the bridge will not need significant maintenance for some time.
