A NATIONAL youth swimmer is among the LVS Ascot pupils celebrating their A level results today.

Abbie Johnson achieved A*A with a double Distinction* in her BTEC sport. She will be reading sport at Birmingham University.

The keen athlete was delighted with her grades and hopes to use them as a springboard to a future career in sports research.

She said: "I am shocked but extremely happy. I didn't expect it at all.

"I knew I could do it but just actually doing it was hard."

Abbie normally trains for 13 hours a week in the pool but understandably decided to hang up her swimwear temporarily in the run-up to her final exams.

Her ultimate aim is to be part of the team training Team GB athletes to maximise their performance.

She added: "It would be my dream job. I wouldn't see it as a job, more as a passion, something I really enjoy doing."

Overall the school recorded a 99.2 per cent A level pass rate with 73.2 per cent of students achieving A*-C and 44 per cent getting A*-B grades.

Other LVS successes included Georgia Acton, who has secured a place to read chemistry at Bristol with her A*AAA grades, and Zoe Carlin, who achieved A*A*B with A* in her Extended Project Qualification and will be studying economics at the University of Birmingham.

Georgia said: "I am really over the moon and just really happy to be going to university. The worst part was the waiting and the worrying."

Zoe's mum Carol Ann said: "I am delighted and really proud of her. She has a very disappointing set of results last year so it's fantastic that she's turned it around."

Principal Christine Cunniffe was extremely impressed with what LVS Ascot students had accomplished.

She added: "I was over the moon when I saw the results sheet.

"Everybody has achieved to the best of their abilities."
