FOUR charities in Wokingham were handed more than £10,000 through donations raised through the town's annual May Fayre.
Younger People with Dementia (Berkshire), a charity that supports adults between 30 and 64 with young onset dementia, the Alzheimers and Dementia Café at the Methodist Church in Rose Street, MacMillan, a charity that supplies a team of nurses and therapists who help with cancer treatment and Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, who train dogs to alert deaf people to sounds they can’t hear, were all given cheques by the Wokingham Lions Club.
President Bob Westerman said: "We are very pleased to support each of these worthy charities with four cheques totalling £10,500. We work in partnership with the town council to organise the event. This year’s May Fayre was a great success, and the donations are made up from proceeds from the event sponsorship and public donations on the day."
Wokingham in Need also received a cheque for £4,680.
Its founder Sue Jackson said: "These funds will help purchase a porta-cabin, to be used as a Drop In Centre for the homeless and vulnerable in Wokingham. It will be sited on Salvation Army land and run by Salvation Army staff and volunteers."
Wokingham in Need helps the homeless, vulnerable and needy people of the borough.
The Lions Club also inducted two new members, Wokingham Town Mayor Cllr Gwynneth Hewetson as an honorary member honorary member and Ian Grange.
