A LEADING light from Ascot has been honoured with a British Empire Medal (BEM) for her services to the community in Berkshire.

Margaret Morgan was presented with the award on Wednesday July 13 at a special ceremony at Ascot Racecourse by James Puxley, Lord Lieutenant of the Royal County of Berkshire, on the Queen's behalf.

The citation read: "Mrs Morgan is very determined and never lets a problem stop her from achieving the correct solution. Her leadership of the steering group for the Sunningdale Neighbourhood Plan meant that The Plan received an overwhelming 91% yes vote in March 2014.

"After the plan was adopted, Mrs Morgan was instrumental in setting up a community group, The Neighbourhood Plan Delivery Group, to champion the monitoring and implementation of the policies and to drive the delivery of the projects included."

The BEM was reintroduced by Her Majesty in her Jubilee year, to recognise the contribution that so many citizens provide to their communities.
