WORK to transform The Bull pub in Bracknell with an extension and refurbishment have started.

As part of the town centre's ongoing regeneration, the historic pub has been earmarked for a complete makeover with the single storey extension to the back of the building currently being torn down to make way for a new 3,000 sq ft timber framed extension.

Alterations to the existing building have also now started and it's hoped the new addition will link the old building with the modern town centre development.

Simon Russian, development manager for Legal and General on behalf of the Bracknell Regeneration Partnership, said they hope to restore The Bull to its former glory with a modern twist and said: "We are confident that the combination of old and new will offer a different experience when it opens as part of The Lexicon."

He added there had been a "high level" of interest from businesses who could potentially take the site on.

Cllr Marc Brunel-Walker, executive member for economic development and regeneration at Bracknell Forest Council, said: "With all lettings on Eagle Lane recently completed, there couldn’t be a better time to start work on The Bull and breathe new life into this much loved building.

"Residents will be able to see the new building taking shape over the coming months in anticipation of the new occupiers moving in next year. It will be a welcome edition to the town centre and we hope will be a popular place for people in the borough to socialise and relax."
